Your Excellency,
The Integration of the Diaspora for the Emergence of a New Haiti (IDENH) is a civil society movement working for the respect and implementation of the rights and duties of Haitians living abroad. We hasten to send you this correspondence to express our firm intention and keen interest in having the Haitian diaspora participate in the process of discussion and designation of members who will sit on the new Transitional Presidential Council in Haiti. Although we have reservations about this approach, we hope to see CARICOM and other friendly countries attend as observers to assist Haitian political actors and civil society in converging towards a common path for the safeguarding of Haiti.
The question of the participation of members of the Haitian diaspora in the social, economic, and political life of the country has been the subject of numerous sterile debates in recent years. Some diaspora organizations would like to see a compatriot represent the diaspora sector within the new Presidential Council.
After consultations with various diaspora organizations, the members of the Executive Committee of the IDENH also believe that the urgency to create space for young leaders in the context of renewing the political class in Haiti is felt. The traditional political class is largely responsible for the political failure we have witnessed in Haiti over the past thirty years.
The members of the Executive Committee of the IDENH extend their courtesies to you, Madame Secretary-General, and convey to you the expression of their patriotic
greetings.
